Distance Covered: 11.32 Nautical Miles
A quick call to Patriot Hills Base Camp left us somewhat disappointed.
The message came in loud and clear:
The unrelenting winds will, well, unrelent all week long... hold on tight!
Having crossed the 1st degree, with a week behind us and routines in place, we've increased out daily output to 9 hours of ski (from 8 hours). This will give us around 10% more distance per day. It's not too bad though, as it sets a more comfortable pace.
After a week on the ice, the first thing you notice is a drop in the weight of the sled you're pulling.
Let's say, to simplify, you lose 10% of the weight of your sled with every passing week. The weight loss is attributed to the consumption of food, fuel, et al.
On my end, I've chosen to carry the weight of others to increase the daily distance covered by The Team, so my sled's the same as Day 0; I'm comfortable with the weight, and after all we work as a Team.
